I love dA and all, but I found one thing that just bothers me.
On the front page, if there is a popular piece of literature, I'll look at it and read it. After reading it, most of the time it is okay/good (but I've read better) and so I go to the person's page. And I swear, 95 percent of the time, they aren't completely writers and gain their fanbase through photography and other visual stuff. That's fine. But when they post literature and easily get 1,000+ pageviews and 100 comments for one piece, it bothers me. Here we have the loyal writers who try to throw themselves out there and get readers, and always end up with close to none.
You have it well on dA if you're good at a mixture of things, for you'll get viewers and comments/critiques. But if your talent lies in writing and nothing else... you scramble for people to tell you how you're doing, you scramble for readers, and everything.
What I'm trying to convey is that more people need to read. I look at the newest literature pieces submitted and I go and comment unknown writers, for I know what they're going through. You should too.
Life isn't fair.
End rant.
